Clothing and Equipment Requirements
We suggest that children come to school in clothing that has the school emblem and or colour. We refer to these as school clothes. Younger children need clothing that is easy to put on and take off to encourage independence and ease in the toilet.
Please provide the following for school:
- Hats, which protect the face, neck and ears (Wide brimmed hats or legionnaires caps). This is required every day for playtime and outdoor activities. "NO HAT, NO PLAY"
- Suitable shoes (not thongs or high heels) should be worn. Children are expected to wear laced up sneakers for sport.
- A change of clothing for 3 year olds should be sent ( in case of accidents).
- Jewelery is not to be worn at school
for safety reasons except small stud earrings. The school cannot take responsibility for loss, damage or personal injury.
- A school bag large enough to hold a lunch box, hat and some books etc.
- A china or pottery mug kept at school during the term..
- Other equiment requirements are listed for parents each year.
- Shirts which do not have images on the front or back.
Health
Infections can spread rapidly in a close school environment. Children who are ill must remain at home until the infectious period is completely over. Medical practitioners advice is essential.
Children enrolled at Rockingham Montessori School need to be immunised according to the immunisation schedule laid down by the Health Department of WA.
Medication prescibed by a medical practitioner may be administered by the principal or administration staff provided this is specially requested in writing by the child's parent/legal guardian on the "Request to Administer Medication" form.
The school nurse visits regularly providing services for over 4 year olds and we have access to dental therapy services at Safety Bay Primary School for children over 6 years of age.
Lunches, Birthdays, Absences, Toys
Lunches: Children are expected to have healthy lunches and fruit for their morning snack. Chocolate, sweets, chips, sugary or fizzy drinks and boxed drinks are not allowed. We try to promote care of the environment by minimising wrappings and packages in lunch boxes.
Birthdays: To celebrate birthdays, children may bring a fruit platter to share with their class, if they wish. Please liase with class director/ress.
Absences: The D.E.T requires that a primary school student who is sick or absent from school for any other reason needs a written note for the day or days the child is absent. Please provide this on the child's return to school.
Toys: Children do not need to bring any toys to school.
